I believe that to truly see change in how we feel and act within relationships, we have to engage from the roots. This is why I focus on helping you heal within too, rather than just teaching you the skills.
My approach is phased, meaning that I meet you right where you are and that there is a progressive flow to our work together. My work is deeply rooted in trauma and crisis research and neuroscience—I'm not just winging it!
I am an advocate of evidence-based and clinically proven therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Mindfulness-based intervention. EQ, Emotional Intelligence is the key pillar in my sessions.
Working collaboratively with clients to create a rich and meaningful life while effectively managing the challenges that life inevitably brings, I tailor a therapeutic technique based upon the presented issues of each client. This involves assessing, delivering interventions and adapting session plans to a client’s individual need at the moment.
Non-verbal activities such as sandplay and drawing are incorporated into the sessions to facilitate the therapeutic process. A point is made to create a safe and supportive environment, which allows clients to explore and identify goals and changes they want to make to reach a greater sense of self-awareness and wellbeing to create the life they wish for.
One-on-one, group counselling, group facilitation support and crisis support for clients from diverse backgrounds, ages and genders comprise my professional experience.
Over the past 26 years, my work has included private practice, government agencies, community-based family services including Secondary Schools and a Junior College. The focus has been on helping clients restore hope, build resilience and imbue self-empowerment.
I am experienced in working with individuals, couples and families over a broad range of issues. Special areas of interest include mid-life crises, parenting issues, marital enhancement and new life roles. In addition, I have also worked with issues of addiction, violence and trauma. Increasingly over the last 10 years I have been working more with millennial women. Their ability to renew, heal and move forward has been very inspiring.
As part of my life’s work, I am involved in extensive volunteer crisis counselling with non-profit organizations such as Hope 87, United Sikhs and United Nations. In this capacity, I have provided crisis-counselling during national disasters such as the 2004 Tsunami, 2005 South Asia Earthquake, 2017 Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Bangladesh.
Since 1997 I also am an Executive Coach ( WABC, ICF accrediated) a Mediator and Facilitator/Trainer on Leadership and Soft Skills. I am fluent in English, Malay, Bahasa, Hindi and Punjabi.
